GALWAY, IRELAND — Freudenberg Medical has been awarded the ‘Medtech Company of the Year’ and ‘Medtech Partner/Supplier of the Year’ Awards 2024 at the prestigious Irish Medtech Awards. The awards program, organized by the Irish Medtech Association, Enterprise Ireland, and IDA Ireland, recognize excellence and innovation across Ireland’s thriving Medtech sector.

Freudenberg Medical is a global contract design and manufacturing partner to the medical device and biopharma industry operating in key Medtech hubs across the US, Europe, Asia and Costa Rica. In Ireland, the company employs over 1,000 people across two sites in Carrick-on-Shannon and Galway, shipping more than 16 million complex, minimally invasive catheters annually from a combined footprint of 200,000 square feet.

Milestone for Irish Operations

Commenting on the achievement, Freudenberg Medical CEO Dr. Mark Ostwald said: “We are truly honoured to receive these prestigious awards from the Irish Medtech community. This recognition reflects the exceptional dedication, innovation, and expertise of our Irish teams, who have built world-class operations at the heart of Ireland’s Medtech hub. This milestone highlights the reputation our Irish teams have earned as trusted partners in delivering complex catheter solutions to the world’s leading medical device companies. Congratulations to our entire Irish team for winning these well-deserved awards.”

Major Investments Driving Innovation and Growth

Over the past 12 months, Freudenberg Medical has invested significantly in its Irish operations, announcing plans to create 350 new jobs to support its expanded facilities in Co. Leitrim and Co. Galway.

The company recently celebrated the official opening of its newly expanded facility in Carrick-on-Shannon, which will increase staffing levels by over one-third to 950 employees by 2026. In Galway, Freudenberg Medical increased its manufacturing capacity by 50% in 2023, creating 100 new jobs to support this growth.

Freudenberg Medical’s Irish sites play a pivotal role in its global operations, particularly in the manufacturing of complex electrophysiology (EP) catheters. Every two minutes, a patient undergoes life-changing treatment using an EP device manufactured by Freudenberg Medical, and one in every four EP ablation procedures worldwide is supported with catheter solutions manufactured at its Irish operations.

Celebrating Excellence

Vice President and General Manager of Freudenberg Medical’s Co. Leitrim facility in Carrick-on-Shannon, Barry Regan, said: “This award celebrates the innovative mindset of our teams, from successful customer collaborations to deliver transformative medical devices to our investments in smart manufacturing, VR training, and AI-powered planning tools. Our teams are passionate about their responsibility to deliver high-quality products that improve patient care, and this recognition is a testament to their dedication.”

Steven Langan, Vice President and General Manager of Freudenberg Medical’s Galway facility added: “We sincerely thank the Irish Medtech Association, IDA Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland for this recognition. These awards not only celebrate the accomplishments of our Irish teams but also highlight the strategic importance of Ireland within Freudenberg Medical’s global network. The recent expansions at both sites demonstrate our commitment to innovation and excellence in our Irish operations.”

Freudenberg Medical was announced as the winner of the ‘Medtech Company of the Year’ and ‘Medtech Partner/Supplier of the Year’ award as part of the Medtech Rising Annual Conference on December 5, 2024, Ireland’s largest gathering of senior professionals and international business leaders in Medtech.
